A few years ago I was hired to design and craft aprons for 3 theme restaurants here in NYC. The motifs were quite diverse: French bistro, flapper era and steak and seafood place. The client had some ideas in mind but my work was cut out for me. I love doing research. So I jumped in full on. I collected a few books at this time on vintage aprons and was looking thru them recently, part of my spring cleaning and gearing up for some new apron designs.
What I am most intrigued by is the variety of women's aprons. Something for every personality and every occasion. A Christmas apron with bells and poinsettias on it, an apron for when entertaining your friends at Bridge night. What happened to Bridge night? Maybe I should try to bring that back in Brooklyn. As a designer I can always find something useful or inspiring from these books. This is one of my favorite parts of the design process.
