Passionate Purples - Eggplant and Petunias

I think it's safe to say we are in the dog days of summer. At least here in Brooklyn we are currently having a heat wave. My Bordeaux supertunias, pictured above, are feeling the effects     My eggplant in the back garden, first time planting it, doesn't seem to be producing the tasty augergine of the nightshade species. But that's a gardeners' woe right? You try something new. My brother in Boston is trying eggplant this season and he also not successful.

In the July /August issue of Martha Stewart living there is a gorgeous photo of eggplants and a glossary to assist.  This is definitely a tear out sheet for keeps. Martha's crew lists 15 varieties of the egg shaped plant.  Beautiful names such as Ophelia and Dancer.  It also is a beautiful palette to base my next project on.

I don't think my eggplant will produce any thing this season.  Thankfully we can always head to the farmers market.

Do you grow eggplant? Do you have any tips for me? What do you like to make with it?
