Autumnal Inspirations

A little town called Hopewell Junction, October 2017

A little town called Hopewell Junction, October 2017

If you are like me or most people Instagram is total eye candy.  I've been saving some of my likes on instagram, I think when I do look back at them I can smell the crisp leaves.  I've been mentioning this to my daughter lately.  Do you smell the leaves? This past weekend we drove upstate and at one point I pulled the car over so we can walk in the leaves, and smell the change of seasons.  It's so refreshing and relaxing.

I Spy Diy

I Spy Diy

The photo above from I Spy Diy, a blog and website of diy projects is filled with inspiration! The style and colors are usually modern with pops of brights and neons.  This photo I particularly love because of the soft shades of autumn shown.  Instead of the bright, and deep shades she shows the subtle, soft faded and burnt shades of autumn.  It's so quiet and beautiful.

Domino Mag

This photo is from Domino Magazine on Instagram. This is a popular trend here in Brooklyn.  People are decorating the door steps and stoops and you are asked to use the garden level entrance.  This sort of decorating makes it look so bountiful.

Have you been getting inspired by fall foliage and pumpkins everywhere?

Chihuly at the New York Botanical Garden

sol del citron

Breathtaking is one word. Awe-inspiring, another.  Dale Chihuly, an American artist who works with glass,  has created dramatic new pieces inspired by his Artwork Installations of 1975 in Lewiston, NY.  I first saw his work when I lived in Portland.  It's always overwhelming and beautiful and I can't help think, how does he do that? What he does with glass is unbelievable and inspirational.  The New York Botanical Garden always has amazing art exhibits.  They never seem to disappoint.  And this summer is no different.  Chihuly has pieces are scattered throughout the New York Botanical Garden complementing and enhancing.  A wonderful place to escape to during a hot summer in the city.

Recharging the Battery

Nantucket Harbor

I was very stressed days before my vacation.  Who isn't.  I had to clean our house because guests were coming, pack for me, pack for Harper and also trying to finish some product to get to one of my retailers in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, Mind Matter .   Fortunately the husband stepped in and did the majority of the cleaning.  Now that I am here I can't believe I was actually thinking I didn't want to come.  I love Nantucket.  It may be my favorite place in the world.  I've been coming here for years.  I worked here during the summer when I was in college.  This morning I went for a run which I haven't done in a long time and I realize how stressed and not in my right head was I.

We all need to recharge the battery.  And if you are a parent you know that vacations aren't truly vacations when with a child.  But none the less I am in a beautiful, peaceful and certainly inspirational place.  So for the next 10 days I will be sharing some photos that I find worthy.  That demonstrate how beautiful this island is, untouched areas, miles of nature conservancy, and a New England historic whaling island that has become a chic destination in the past few decades.

Winter Spring Inspirations

Mother nature is teasing us.  It snowed yesterday, not much but 4" is enough for Brooklyn.  And today it is melting away. I saw the snow dripping off my flower boxes this morning.  Spring is coming.  The below photos I saw on websites or magazines and saved them and pinned them to my inspiration wall.  The colors are beautiful to look at and get me excited for spring.

The shades of the grey back ground with the light pinks and oranges of the fruit look so lovely and peaceful.  Just think, this is what the bulbs popping out of the ground will look like in a few weeks.  After that foot of snow has melted.
