This summer I will be teaching an intensive session of Intro to Weaving for Home Decor at the Fashion Institute in mid town Manhattan. This special session is for those 60 and older. Come in from the heat and cool off, learn a new skill you can do at the pool or the beach. That's where I started. I picked up a kit years ago in Nantucket and headed to the beach. Now I am hooked.
Once you learn a variety of weaves I will teach you how to make a rug or basket.
July 13,14 and 15 - 2 pm to 5 pm Senior Learners only
Using a small portable loom, you will learn how to weave decorative functional household items such as a potholder, trivet, or small wall hanging. A variety of weaves will be taught, including plain weave, basket weave, and stars aligned weave. You will become familiar with terminology that can be applied to other textile formats and tools used for weaving. Each student will craft their own woven home product and learn how to hand sew their squares together into a table runner or throw rug, if they so choose, for their final project.
